Hypnotic, cinematic soundscapes that balance melancholic reflection with pure Mediterranean warmth.
Listen NowContre Jour — literally "against the light" — is a musical project born on the sun-drenched coast of the South of France. Drawing from the golden hours of the Mediterranean, the band crafts soundscapes that feel both ancient and entirely new.
Their music is a dialogue between shadow and radiance: the hush of a cello at dusk, the shimmer of a nylon-string guitar at dawn, the breath of an accordion drifting through a Provencal village square. Each composition is a film without images, a landscape painted in sound.
Rooted in folk traditions yet reaching toward cinematic horizons, Contre Jour weaves together classical instrumentation, world music textures, and the quiet poetry of the French chanson — creating an atmosphere that lingers long after the final note fades.
Four albums, each a chapter in an ongoing meditation on light, memory, and the sea.
Their latest work — a love letter to the blue hour, when day dissolves into night and the Mediterranean holds its breath.
A radiant collection of sun-soaked compositions, balancing joy and longing in equal measure.
The breakthrough album that defined their signature sound — cinematic, intimate, and deeply evocative.
Their debut — raw, tender, and full of promise. The first light of a band still finding its voice.
"Contre Jour doesn't just play music — they paint the air with it. Every note feels like a memory you've never lived."
Founder and principal composer. His nylon-string guitar is the heart of the Contre Jour sound — warm, intimate, and endlessly lyrical.
Classically trained in Lyon, she brings a soaring, cinematic voice to every arrangement — at once precise and deeply emotional.
The shadow to Lucien's light. His cello grounds the music in melancholy, while his accordion breathes life into every folk melody.
Rhythm as poetry. She sculpts time with brushes, bells, and the soft touch of piano — never driving, always flowing.
